Middelvlei Wine Estate must be one of my all time favorite places in Stellenbosch. They are not your average wine farm, they have a very unique concept, the Middelvlei Boerebraai.
The moment you drive into Middelvlei, the world is forgotten. They have this amazing farm feel, big old farmhouse with pigs and chickens and dogs running around on their luscious green lawns. They have this GREAT outside seating area with rustic tables that are set with picnic baskets. The Boerebraai includes a starter and a main and desert can be ordered additionally. While you relax sipping on their fantastic wine, they prepare potbrood on the open fire which is then served with smoked snoek Pâté and homemade preserves.
Be careful with the potbrood (LISTEN TO ME), it is amazing but you need to leave space for the Braaivleis!
Now for the Star! A selection of Wors, sosaties, lamb chops, braaibroodjies, (OH YES) potato salad, green garden salad and pumpkin fritters are served. The fritters might be the best I have ever had, literally!
Soos jou ouma sin, dalk net beter.
To end it off, regte egte BOERE KOFFIE will be brewing on hot coals. The smell, oh the smell.
Middelvlei Boerebraai is a must when visiting Stellenbosch, for us it is a monthly occurrence.
